County exec sues New York over an order to rescind his ban on transgender female athlete

- MINEOLA, New York: A county executive in the suburbs of New York City has launched a federal lawsuit against

-  a state decision requiring him to lift a contentious prohibition on transgender athletes participating in women's and girls' sports.

-The "cease and desist" letter issued by state Attorney General Letitia James, according to Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman, 

- violates the 14th Amendment's "equal protection" clause of the U.S. Constitution.

- The Republican claims that by putting biological female athletes at greater danger of harm if they are required to compete against transgender athletes,

- his executive order from February 22 is a violation of both their "right to a safe playing field" and their "right to equal opportunities in athletics."

- Requests for comments on the lawsuit were not immediately answered by James' office.
