In the latest teaser for “Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning,” Tom Cruise returns with even more death-defying stunts. On May 23, it opens in theaters.
With “The Final Reckoning” hinting at a devastating conclusion to the “Mission: Impossible” series after eight films, this may be the final time we see Cruise in the role of IMF agent Ethan Hunt. At the conclusion of 2023’s “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning,” of which “Final Reckoning” was first described as a Part Two, Ethan is attempting to prevent The Entity, a potent AI program, from causing chaos and ending up in the wrong hands.

Alongside Cruise, the cast also features Shea Wigham as Jasper Briggs, Greg Tarzan Davis as Degas, Vanessa Kirby as Alanna Mitsopolis, Hayley Atwell as Grace, Simon Pegg as Benji Dunn, Ving Rhames as Luther Strickell, and Pom Klementieff as the assassin Paris. Esai Morales plays the villain Gabriel. “Ted Lasso” actor Hannah Waddingham, Nick Offerman, Lucy Tulugarjuk, Katy O’Brian, Tramell Tillman, and Stephen Oyoung are among the newcomers to the “Mission: Impossible” franchise.

With scenes where he dangles from a plane and an underwater submarine sequence, Cruise has already hinted at the kind of jaw-dropping action that fans may anticipate in “The Final Reckoning.”

During an interview with Empire, Cruise stated, “You’re not getting oxygen when you stick your face out [of an airplane], going over 120 to 130 miles an hour.” I had to learn how to breathe as a result. Sometimes I would physically faint, making it impossible for me to return to the cockpit.
