Things You Should Know
The odds are stacked against the Texans, so their supporters had better hope the team puts on a fantastic show on Monday. At 9:00 p.m. ET at Don Haskins Center, they will compete for holiday cheer alongside the UTEP Miners. The Texans undoubtedly want to end their five-game losing streak on the road.
The oddsmakers placed the over/under low for Tarleton State at 135.5 last week, but even that turned out to be too high going into this match. They were humiliated by UCF last Sunday, losing 66-51. The Texans’ point total in this game was a huge disappointment because they had flown to a heady 90 points in the previous one.
Tarleton State ended the game with 14 offensive rebounds and broke the offensive glass, despite their defeat. The club had already brought down at least 10 offensive rebounds in four straight games, so the impressive feat wasn’t unprecedented.
On the other hand, UTEP’s three-game winning streak came to an end on Wednesday. They lost to Louisville 77-74, almost missing them. That was the Miners’ closest loss since February 3rd, for those who are keeping score at home.
For the losing team, Corey Camper Jr. made a strong effort, going 7 for 13 on his way to 19 points and two steals. He also set a new career best in three-point shooting accuracy (66.7%) with the impressive effort.
Tarleton State is at 3-8, a significant drop from their 23-8 record the previous season. UTEP’s record fell to 6-3 as a result of their loss.
With Tarleton State making 37.2% of their three-pointers per game this season, the matchup on Monday looks to be a shooting masterclass. UTEP has made 40.3% of their threes this season, so it’s not like they have trouble there. It will be interesting to watch how their conflict develops given these conflicting strengths.
Despite disappointing their supporters in their most recent games, Tarleton State and UTEP both managed to win. Given that UTEP is favored by a whopping 15.5 points, their upcoming game appears to be a promising one. Tarleton State is only 3-7 ATS, but they have been a good investment this season, now 5-2 against the spread.
