With this first official look at the impending Switch 2 handheld system, Nintendo has officially put an end to rumors. To promote the forthcoming Nintendo Direct presentation on April 2, 2025, the Japanese company today published a brief teaser trailer for the second-generation console. We will only learn about the plans during the event, therefore we are now in the dark regarding the dates of the market launch. If the announcement excites you, Nintendo will also be holding experience events in Asia, Europe, and North America. Beginning in the first week of April, Los Angeles, New York, and Dallas will be the lucky cities in the United States.

The console has a familiar appearance with recognized accents, although the Joy-Con controllers have a somewhat more rounded overall profile. The USB-C connector has been shifted to the upper edge, and the kickstand has undergone some aesthetic refining. The sole alteration to the classic input arrangement is the addition of a new physical button directly beneath the Home button on the right-side controller.
Additionally, the shoulder buttons appear to have been enlarged by Nintendo’s design team, which is undoubtedly a positive development. Although there will undoubtedly be a selection of games that are only available on the Switch 2, Nintendo guarantees that backward compatibility will be possible. The original Switch was one of the best-selling consoles ever thanks to a number of unique games that appealed to gamers, so it’s not shocking to see the firm go that same route once more.
What is the Switch 2 likely to bring?

As usual, Nintendo has kept us in the dark about what the console will be like, particularly when it comes to its internal components. However, there are undoubtedly some leaks that present a rather positive image of the successor. Recently, ZachyCatGames, a data miner on Famiboards (via Beebom), revealed some fascinating information regarding the Switch. According to reports, the processing unit will be dominated by Arm’s Cortex-A78 cores, which are clocked at 998.4 MHz in an octa-core arrangement.
Both the CPU and the GPU are said to surpass the 1GHz frequency threshold when in docked mode, allegedly achieving an output of more than 3 TFLOPS. An Nvidia T239 GPU (based on the Ampere architecture) is said to have 48 third-generation Tensor cores, six texture processing clusters, 1,534 CUDA cores, and a few ray-tracing cores. Additionally, according to the folks at DigitalFoundry (via GameSpot), the upcoming Switch will have Nvidia’s T239 graphics engine. Onboard, there will be 12GB of LPDDR5 memory.

Take them with a grain of salt, since those significant improvements on the memory and graphics boards are nearly too good to be true. In contrast to the OLED variant, which only provided a more attractive display to look at, Switch 2 fans anticipate a significant upgrade. Therefore, it won’t be shocking to see Nintendo deliver a powerful punch with the Switch update that spans generations.
