To promote the introduction of their direct-to-cell satellite connectivity service, which was created in collaboration with SpaceX, T-Mobile ran an advertisement during the 2025 Super Bowl. The T-Mobile Starlink service is finally allowing everyone to participate in early testing, more than two years after it was first revealed. Actually, users of competitors like AT&T and Verizon can also sign up for the program. Notably, T-Mobile will provide its satellite-to-phone service at no cost until July, when the service will formally start.
For your phone to connect to the satellite network, no specific gear is required. As soon as a compatible phone leaves terrestrial cellular service, it will automatically connect to the network broadcast by the Starlink satellite. According to the carrier, T-Mobile Starlink will also transmit Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEAs) to everybody nationwide who is within signal range. Only text message sending and receiving is permitted in the initial stage. Users will soon have the option to send photo messages as well.
T-Mobile says it will eventually enable calling and data facilities for its satellite-to-phone service. “We are also collaborating with our global roaming partners and SpaceX to offer satellite services to our customers when traveling abroad or in international waters in the future,” the company adds. The service is compatible with both Android and Apple smartphones, and it doesn’t require any special apps because the default pre-installed messaging app will cover everything perfectly.

According to T-Mobile, any phone that was widely released within the last four years is able to connect to the satellite network. Regarding pricing, T-Mobile will provide all of the chosen testers with it at no cost. Customers on the Go5G Next plan will be able to access the service for free after its commercial launch in July. For a fixed monthly charge of $15, the remaining T-Mobile customers can add it to their current connection. However, aficionados will receive a discounted fee of $10 per month if they express their interest in accessing it during February. For a monthly price of $20, customers who choose to continue using their current carrier but yet want to take advantage of T-Mobile’s direct-to-cell satellite network can do so.
