Unlocking your door in the same manner as your iPhone screen is part of the company’s smart home push.
In today’s Power On email, Mark Gurman of Bloomberg claims that Apple is developing a new smart doorbell camera that will unlock your door using Face ID. According to Gurman, the camera might be made available “as soon as possible” by the end of 2025.
When you or another resident glances at your door, the lock will automatically unlock it, exactly like your iPhone does. The camera would have Apple’s Secure Enclave chip, which stores and processes Face ID data independently from the rest of the system’s hardware, just like biometric login information on other Apple devices.
According to Gurman, this gadget will “probably” be compatible with current third-party HomeKit smart locks, and the business might collaborate with a smart lock manufacturer “to offer a complete system on day one.” He anticipates that the camera will utilize Apple’s proprietary “Proxima” Wi-Fi/Bluetooth chip, which is said to be used in next HomePod Mini and Apple TV models.
With its focus on Apple Intelligence, this doorbell camera is part of a larger set of reports about a revived Apple push into the smart home market. A potential Apple-branded TV, a new smart home camera, and two new smart home displays are among them. One is a basic iPad-like gadget that magnetically fastens to speaker bases or wall mounts, while the other rests on the end of a robotic arm that is fastened to a larger base.
